To commemorate the release of new Bella Solids, I've whipped up an all-solids version of Blackbird Designs' wonderful Blueberry Crumb Cake pattern. The original pattern is a free Moda Fabrics download available {here}. This quilt finishes at 68" square. It's an ambitious quilt because it entails lots of cutting and the blocks are pieced slightly out of the norm.

1 fat quarter bundle of new Bella Solids (SKU 9900N5AB) OR 33 fat eighths (9"x 22")
3½ yards background fabric
1⅝ yard each sashing and binding fabric
4½ yards backing fabric

NOTE: The instructions are written for fat eighths.

CUTTING
Main Block & 4 Patches
from EACH of 25 Dark prints/Bella Solids, cut:

• (1) 3½" x 22" strip
• (1) 2½"  22" strip
• (1) 2" x 22" strip
  • subcut (2) 2"x 5" rectangles

from EACH of 6 light prints/Bella Solids, cut (3) 2½" x 22" strips

from Background fabric, cut:

• (18) 3½" x WOF strips, subcut:
  • (25) 3½" x 22" strips
  • (100) 3½" x 2" rectangles
• (7) 5" x WOF strips, subcut:
  • (50) 5" x 2½" rectangles
  • (25) 5" x 3½" rectangles
  • (25) 5" x 2" rectangles
• (6) 2½"x WOF strips, subcut (12) 2½" x 22" strips
• (2) 2" x WOF  strips, subcut (25) 2" squares

From Sashing & Binding fabric, cut

• (10) 2½" x WOF strips. Set aside 7 strips for Binding. Subcut (5) 2½" x 22" strips from remaining strips for blocks.
• (5) 2"x WOF  strips. Sew end-to-end and cut:
  • (2) 2" x 52½" strips
  • (2) 2" x 49½" strips
• (10) 1½" x WOF strips. Subcut (20) 1½" x 9½" strips. Sew 5 remaining strips end-to-end and then subcut (4) 1½" x 49½" strips

PIECING

Main Block: One Bella Solid/Dark print is used within a block. Follow the steps below to make a block. Always press away from the background fabric. Repeat to make a total of (25) 9½" square Main Blocks.

Four Patches: Combine (1) 2½" x 22" Bella Solid or Sashing and (1) 2½" x 22" Background strip. Make 30 strip sets. Cut each set into (8) 2½" wide segments. Join 2 segments to make one Four Patch. Make a total of 120 Four Patches.

Quilt Assembly: Combine 5 Main Blocks and (4) 1½" x 9½" Sashing strips as shown to make a row. Always press toward the Sashing. Make 5 rows. Join the rows and (4) 1½" x 49½" Sashing strips as shown to make the quilt center. Add (2) 2" x 49½" Sashing strips to the sides of the quilt then (2) 2" x 52½" Sashing strips to the top and bottom. Sew (13) Four Patches into a column. Make 4. Add to the quilt sides as shown. Sew (17) Four Patches into a row. Make 4. Add to the top and bottom sides as shown. Be sure the Four Patches are facing the right direction!

Sew the (7) 2½" x WOF Binding strips together. Layer, quilt, and bind. ENJOY!

Quilt is 68" x 68".
