Block Heads 2 - Block 4

Block Heads 2 - Block 4

It's the last Wednesday in June, and while the year is almost half-over, the Moda Block Heads are just getting started for Round 2.  And today we've got a block from one of our lovely new faces, Brigitte Heitland of Zen Chic.

This is Block 4 - Roman Cross made by Brigitte.  It's made with fabrics her Modern Backgrounds Paper collection and an assortment of Grunge by BasicGrey.

Brigitte shared a little bit about her process for selecting fabrics that I wanted to share... While I keep the colored patches in my blocks really structured (means symmetrical and clear), I go very random with my low volume background pieces - these are from my Modern Backgrounds Paper collection. I don't plan too much on placement, I just grab one and go. And I like this scrappy background effect, while the clear color placement keeps everything together.

This is Betsy Chutchian's Roman Cross block - it's made with fabrics from her Evelyn's Homestead collection.  (It's in shops now.)

This is Moda Michelle's Reproduction version of Block 3 made with fabrics from Reflections and Timeless by Jo Morton, and from Moda Puzzle Pieces.

Brigitte also loves foundation paper-piecing, so she has created a paper-pieced template that can be downloaded from her blog.  She also has a couple of terrific ideas on what else to make using just this block.  For more with Brigitte - Zen Chic Blog.

The last block to share is mine... it appears that I'm still having a few issues with following instructions.  Mo' pieces... mo' fabrics... mo' better.

The fabrics are from Brigitte's Paper collection, Jen Kingwell's Gardenvale, Beach Road and Looking Forward, and BasicGrey's Meraki.  All of my pieces are the same unfinished size - 2-5/8" HTSs and 1-5/8" connector corners for the star points in the center of the block.
