Whether simple, ornate, modern or traditional--fun house patterns are always in style. House designs appeared in early quilts and continue to inspire modern and traditional quilters today. Here is a sampling of some " Moda Wonderful" house designs trending today along with some fun ideas for incorporating these timeless designs into all areas of your home or shop.

Pictured above is the delightful new Fig Tree pattern Homestead pieced in Joanna's upcoming collection Somerset. These house designs are classic in style and yet full of today's modern charm. This is a pieced pattern which is suitable for confident beginners and beyond.

Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts also released a charming new house block quilt pattern. Edyta's Homestead design features beautiful applique flowers and is pieced with her upcoming collection Heart's Content. Ready-made applique templates are also available for the floral applique sections of this quilt.

Delightful house blocks can also be found in samplers and block of the month quilts. House blocks are a popular choice for a design element in row houses--the house blocks can be the same and pieced in a variety of fabric combinations or can be completely different designs. This beautiful house block was designed by Lisa Bongean of Primitive Gatherings and was featured in a recent block of the month program by the Fat Quarter Shop. This house block is pieced using Fig Tree and Company's Avalon collection.

House blocks are also for the holidays! This charm pack friendly house quilt design comes from the Full House Schnibbles pattern by Carrie Nelson of Miss Rosie's Quilt Company. These small blocks are perfect for wall hangings and pillows. Piece them in your favorite fabrics or use some of the recently available Moda Christmas lines to get a head start on your Christmas sewing! These little houses would also be perfect in Minick & Simpson fabrics for the upcoming 4th of July holiday and fun in Halloween prints for a whimsical look.

  • Be creative with fabric choices--make house blocks in all of your favorite holiday fabrics.
